LANtastic Network Operating System Compatibility Bulletin
Product Reviewed: GPIBridge, by PC Support
Classification: Miscellaneous (Bridging software)
Date: 7/31/92
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Compatibility Statement:
GPIBridge by PC Support is compatible with LANtastic 4.xx.
Product Overview:
GPIBridge is a software solution that allows you to control GPIB
(General Purpose Interface Bus, or IEEE 488) instruments remotely
and to share the equipment among multiple users. One dedicated PC
with a National Instruments IEEE 488 interface adapter becomes the
"GPIB controller" and the workstations communicate with it via
LANtastic. This allows you to remotely run PC based applications
designed for the National Instruments card.
Product Installation Notes:
Following the recommendations in the GPIBridge documentation,
install the National Instruments adapter and software in the PC
that will be the GPIB controller and verify that GPIB communication
is working correctly. Then install the LANtastic hardware and
software and ensure that it is functioning properly. Finally,
install the GPIBridge software on both the workstations and the
GPIB controller PC. See the GPIBridge and National Instruments
manuals for further details and troubleshooting tips.
Product Execution Notes:
The GCONTROL program runs on the PC that contains the IEEE 488
adapter. GCONTROL runs in the foreground, so the PC cannot be used
as a LANtastic or GPIB workstation. It can, however, be used as a
LANtastic server at the same time, since server functions are
executed in the background. At the workstations the GPIBridge
device driver, installed in CONFIG.SYS, redirects all GPIB commands
to the controller PC, which in turn sends the commands to the
correct GPIB-connected instrument. See the GPIBridge manual for
full instructions.
